Mark and his wife Roz have lived in the City of Decatur since 1999 and are the proud parents of two daughters, Maya Journey (MJ) and Sage, who attended K-12 at City Schools of Decatur.
Mark is a seasoned executive, entrepreneur, and community advocate with a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years in finance, banking, strategic planning, and data analytics. His professional journey reflects the cornerstone of his candidacy: a deep commitment to innovation, leadership, progress, and service.
Mark has served on numerous public, private, and nonprofit boards and commissions. In Decatur, these include the board of Legacy Park and the City of Decatur Charter Review Commission. His community involvement in Decatur also includes volunteering with the Saturday Math Academy, serving on the School Leadership Team at what was then known as Renfroe Middle School, and participating in the Decatur strategic planning and Legacy Park master plan community workshops.
Fluent in Spanish and conversational in Portuguese, Mark brings a measured, global perspective shaped by international professional roles and service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uruguay. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Brown University and a Master of Management in Finance and Strategy from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Mark believes in collaborative, efficient government that manages basic services and enhances the wellbeing of its people.
We need a measured approach to balance the complex issues related to increasing density, housing affordability and greenspace preservation.
The physical and mental health and wellbeing of a community is a hallmark of a great place to live. Decatur should provide healthy living options for ages: 0-4, 5-12, teenagers and adults, including seniors.
